5. Critical Literacy:)

After almost completed this semester, I viewed Critical Literacy as an interesting subject to learn since this is my first time. All the difficulties that I faced from the first class can be overcome from times to times. This subject taught me a lot of patient and time management is important to complete the assignments.

My comments for this course, it should have introduction to this course. Maybe the students should learn the introduction to critical literacy before taking the critical literacy subject. So that, the students will be prepared enough to learn this subject. I really did not like mass lecture. It was so many of  students from other classes. While the lecturer taught, the students mind their own business. Lecturer cannot gave attention to all students. For me, lecture in the class is more effective than in mass lecture.

Apart of that, the classes for this subject should be in morning session since it will need the students focus and attention. In the morning, the students still energetic and have more energy compared to the afternoon and evening.

Thank you for all the guidance and knowledge toward this subject. Hoping to get good grade for this subject. Push myself to the limit!

4.Proposition : Hollywood produces great movies, but they don't always tell the truth even it is based on 'True Stories'.

I disagree with the statement because there would be many lesson and benefits that the watcher got from the movies that they watched. People nowadays not only sit and watch the movies, they want to know more the story behind those movies. The directors and producers need to pay the attention toward those issues.

Counter Argument 1 : The movie Catch Me If You Can starring by Leonardo DiCaprio is based on the true story about one of the most famous con-artist in the 20th century. This movie told us about how he managed to cash almost $2.5 millions of bad checks without getting caught by the polices. In the movies, he is portrayed as a person who had many problems and his wife cheating on him. But actually the truth is there is no events that say anything about the real person having these kind of problems. The producer changed some of the plot to make it more intense and attractive.There is no originality in this movie.

Counter Argument 2 : Another movie is 127 movie. The movie is based on the real event about a canyoneer, Aron Ralston who was trapped in the bolder in an isolate canyon. This movie showed the journey that Aron faced and got stuck in the canyon alone. In the movie, they real ways he survived was totally different with what the producer plotted in the movie.

As the conclusion, producers and director is too much in exaggerate and adds more dramatic scene in order to get more profit with their movie. The quality and originality of the story need to be considered.

3.'If money were the only criterion by which a child's welfare can be gauged,then a baby bought for as much as RM 40,000 on the black market would seem set for life.For money-rich but child-poor couples,it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home.The cot is gilded,the blanket monogrammed,the college fund filled to the brim.All that's wanting is a bun in the oven.And where there is a baby-for-sale racket,money can indeed buy happiness.And after all,why not?"

The statement states how people get a baby illegally.I view this statement and situation that this behavior should not happen in our community.Why buy a baby at the black market?We can apply the adoption from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat.For me,it would be better if we apply for adoption from just buy the babies from anywhere we want.Baby is a very young which needs a lot of overprotective from their parents.Parents should think deeply before selling or giving the baby to other person.Happiness cannot be buy with the money.Parents that do not have baby should find another ways to get the baby instead of wanted to buy the baby.However,the babies sold at the night market might came from the many background.It might came from pregnant young girls who dump their babies after giving birth,single mothers who could not afford to take care of the babies and even,babies that are stolen from a really good  and wealthy family to be sold following the demands as they believe it would bring them a fortune.Of course,money is not the problem for them to have a baby,but what would happen in the future if the children knew about where did they come from and all?It would lead to more complicated situation.There are a lot of ways on helping babies and children,and paying too high to get the babies would make the things hard.Happiness should be forever and not only for the moments.

Babies are too precious and the nicest creatures ever.We need to take care and be grateful to have them.

2. Stereotyping?

Stereotype is a thought that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things.For me personally,I think we do not have to be stereotype toward others.We do not know what they felt once we differentiate a person with another person.In front of us,they might show the natural face but actually the stereotyping might make them sad and lost confidence.Stereotyping  that go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis is wrong.Most stereotypes tend probably convey a negative impression.Black and white people for an example.People always thought that white people is a nice,kind,good person while for the black person will be the negative one.This will be unfair because the color of the skin is just the color and do not represent the behavior of the people.

I do agree with the quotes don't judge the book only by looking on it's cover.We cannot judge a person only by looking the external appearance only.This is because outer surface doesn't really reflects his inner attitudes and personalities.Inner appearance is what matter the most in one's life.That is why I think we do not have to be stereotype toward others.STOP STEREOTYPING!

1.The comments from seniors about Critical Literacy and my hope for this subject.

my face when i heard about CL subject from seniors.

What is Critical Literacy? Seniors complained about this subject.Seniors said that we have to mentally and physically prepared for this subject.The time needed to finish the assignment will take a lot of time.There were some seniors said that CL subject will become easier if we are not procrastinate the assignment given by the lecturer.One of the senior that I admire a lot and always asked for advice from her said that I have to become positive and have high spirit to learn.From that, the LOVE for this subject will grow from time to time. In the other hand,there were some seniors that gave bad impression toward this subject.It makes me scared to take this subject in semester 4.They said that CL is their nightmares.Once is enough for them not twice or whatsoever.At first I am very scared and I don't have any confidence to take this subject.First class makes me mind blowing because I can't understand anything what the lecturer taught. This subject really needs a lot of reading and research.My aim and hope is that I can stay focus until the end of the class.

Honestly,me,myself,cannot catch up what were being taught when I started learnt this subject.Too much thinking and I have to think deeper and more deeper.Right brain?Left brain?Euphemism?Fact?Opinion?Differences between fact and opinion?Why do I have to know all this kinds of things?It just like I have to learn about human behavior and the action.From time to time,Cl thought me to think rationally and do not see an action and simply make assumptions.There will always have reasons behind all the actions.Like Qu Puteh itself that I learnt in the class.That was the most memorable class that I remember the most.

My expectation and hope for this subject is I can applied all the knowledge that being learnt to my daily life routine. I am excited to learn and get more from the lecturer.If it doesn't CHALLENGE YOU then it doesn't CHANGE YOU!so,let's take the challenge to learn CL!
